You can register for any of our open classes on line by clicking the "Sign Up Now" button at the bottom of each calendar class description.  For classes with multiple sessions, on line sign up is available under the first class date.  You can also call the shop or stop by to register for any class. Classes must be paid for at the time of registration. If you sign up by phone, you can pay by credit card, drop your payment in the mail or drop it by the shop to reserve your spot. No refunds for no shows.  We understand that there are sometimes circumstances beyond your control that prevent you from attending a class.  Please call and let us know.  We will do our best to work with you.


Sit 'n' Sew

Every Wednesday, 2-5pm

Join us once a week for open sewing. Bring your project and supplies. This is a good time for getting a second opinion or help if you are stuck on some aspect of your project. It will also be a good time to be inspired by the work of others. It's always more fun to quilt together. No sign up needed.


Birdie SlingBirdie Sling

This honey of a sling holds everything and it's easy to make!  Modern styling and dynamic proportions will make this one of your favorite carry-all bags!  Shary will share with students several tips for making and finishing this Amy Butler pattern. 


Basic Machine Quilting

If you have always wanted to try machine quilting but weren't sure how to get started, this is the class for you. You will learn how to set up your machine correctly, how to machine quilt with a walking foot, and how to free motion machine quilt.

 


First Time Quilt Making

First Time Quiltmaking Book


If you have been wanting to make “your first quilt” but weren’t quite sure how to get started, this is the class for you!  We’ll be using the book “First-Time Quiltmaking” as our guide.  We’ll talk about selecting a project and fabrics, quilters’ tools, the “language” of quilting and lots more.  We will be working on a small quilt composed of pieced blocks and squares of fabric which is featured in the book.  We will go through the whole process – from fabric selection all the way to quilting, finishing and attaching the label. 

 


Beginning Quilting II

You’ve completed your first quilt or two and now you’re ready to learn a little more!  Robin Cook is back to share with you lots of tips and tricks for triangles, stars, pinwheels, and even a little appliqué.  The quilt and the lessons are based on Eleanor Burns’ book “It’s “El”ementary – Quilting Tips & Techniques”.  Robin and Eleanor have a lot in common – both are terrific ladies who can teach you a lot about quilting and have lots of fun along the way!

 


 

Basic Paper Piecing

Paper Piecing AmandaIs it time for you to learn how to paper piece?  Have you been inspired by those lovely paper pieced patterns but are not sure how to get started?  Have you longed for the precision and accuracy you can get with this technique?  If so, this is the class for you.  Amanda will show you the best way to get started, how to keep it organized, and how to fit all the pieces together to complete a successful design.  She has lots of tips to share which will enable you to apply her paper piecing techniques to any future project that interests you.  Let Amanda show you how to add this valuable skill to your quilting technique repertoire!


Hawaiian Style Applique

Hawaiian Applique PillowCleo went to Hawaii and came back very inspired and excited about Hawaiian quilting.  Her visit inspired her to design this class for the shop.  Cleo was drawn to the symmetrical yet intricate designs of the native patterns in this style of quilting.  In this class you will design your own “native pattern” on freezer paper, transfer it to your fabric and learn to appliqué it using the cutwork method.  In this method, the appliqué is easy to prepare and won’t shift as you work.  In this class you will make a beautiful big block to show off your “Hawaiian Style Quilting”.  It can become a pillow, a small wall hanging, a table topper – whatever your imagination allows!

 


An Everyday Bag

Everyday BagThis bag is a roomy, comfortable bag with 4 inside pockets and 2 outside pockets.  It has the option of a shoulder strap or short handles.  Closure is an optional button and loop or ties.  This is a great everyday, every wear bag for the upcoming fall season.  Deanne is an excellent “bag lady” and will share with you many of her tips and tricks for a successful bag.

 


 

Humbug Bags

Humbug BagsThese little bags are the perfect “little something” when you need to make a gift or give someone a little something!  They are fun and easy to make.  And they are a great canvas for all sorts of embellishments and novelty fabrics.  In this class you will make 2 to 3 of the bags which come in 3 different sizes.  Cleo will show you several ways to make your bags uniquely yours as well as share with you her tips for making the bags.  As part of your class fee, there will be lots of embellishments available for you to use.


Frenchy Bag


This fun, yet sophisticated bag comes in two sizes – the shoulder bag and the handbag. It has a vintage design but is well organized inside for keeping your everyday necessities on hand. Shary has perfected this bag and will share with students several tips for making and finishing this Amy Butler pattern.

 

 


Build a Better Log Cabin

Log Cabin Table Runner

This class features a “better way” to make a log cabin block and quilt.  Amanda will share with you her secrets for how to cut your strips more efficiently and how to organize them to your best advantage.  And – happily – along the way you’ll be making this great looking log cabin table runner quilt.


 

Beginning Table Runner

This table runner is a great first project for a new quilter. It is also a quick project for the experienced quilter. Deb will have several tips to share for making this project even better. The pattern is Seasonal Highlights by Marlous Designs.

The Go & Sew is the perfect notions case to take to classes, retreats and workshops – or just keep your sewing essentials organized at home! The case has vinyl pockets to store your notions and still be able to see them. It even has a pocket for patterns. Value Study Lecture

In this class you will learn how value creates depth, interest and pattern whether in traditional two-color quilt blocks or more contemporary blended quilt blocks. Value provides visual balance and determines the general color of a quilt. In landscape quilts, value is what creates dimension, perspective and season. In this class you will get to see how creative use of value can really make your quilt sing!


The Why and How of Labeling Your Quilt

You’ve finally finished that quilt. You’re proud of your accomplishment. Now it’s time for you to “sign” your work of art.
In this class we’ll discuss what information can or should be included on a quilt label. Why should a label be attached anyway? Does it have to be sentimental and “flowery”? We’ll explore many different ways to make a label, including embroidery, preprinted labels and computer programs – among others. And one more thing…does the label have to be on the back of the quilt? Let’s talk about it!


Free Motion Lace

This technique is known by many names...thread play and thread embellishment just to name a couple. The best thing about this class is that you do NOT need to know how to do free motion quilting or sewing to take the class. You will learn how to create trees, leaves, or angels using this technique. Each piece can then be appliqued to a quilt or used on its own as a tree ornament. You will enjoy thread "doodling" in this class.


Color for Your Quilt - Out of the Closet and on to the Mat

If you love to quilt but struggle to choose fabrics that work together, this is the class for you. Learn all the basics for successfully choosing fabrics that take your quilts from ho-hum to “wow”.


9-Patch Pizzazz

Do you have fabrics in your stash that are "too beautiful to cut up"? Sound familiar? This class focuses on designing quick and easy quilts which make use of those lovely large scale prints. You will learn to combine large and medium scale prints in single, large blocks with nine-patch units to create striking and unique quilts!


Freezer Paper Flowers

This class is for anyone who wants to learn to appliqué by hand or who wants to try a different method of hand appliqué. We will be using the needle turn method with the help of freezer paper. This method makes smooth curves a breeze. Come see how much fun this is! You may choose any one of three patterns: “Irresistible Iris”, “Tulip Trio”, or “Perfect Poppies”.


Photographs: Out of the Album and on to the Quilt

This class will review the process and techniques for including photographs on your quilts. See samples, learn about products, and receive information that will start you on your way to putting photographs in your own creations.


Wonky Squares - A Stack and Slash Technique

If you want to break away from some of the precision in piecing and quilting, then this is the class for you. Learn how to create new and interesting block designs using this technique. Students will be well on their way to completing a small wall hanging at the end of the second session.
